Peninsula Starlight Painting - Interior Repaint Process
Getting Started
Planning and Preparation
Assess the Area: Inspect the walls and ceilings for any damage, such as cracks, holes, or stains. Decide which rooms or areas need repainting.
Choose Colors: Select your desired paint colors. Consider using color samples from reputable brands like Sherwin Williams for a custom color match.
Prepare and Protect
Preparing the Space
Remove Furniture: Clear the room of all furniture if possible and cover any remaining items with drop cloths/plastic.
Clean the Walls: Wipe down the walls with a damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, and grease.
Repair Damages: Fill any cracks or holes with spackling compound and sand smooth once dry.
Tape and Protect: Use painter's tape to cover trim, baseboards, and any other areas you don't want to be painted. Lay down drop cloths to protect the floor.
Make it Stick
Priming the Walls
Apply Primer: Apply a coat of primer to the walls using a roller. Primer helps the paint adhere better and ensures even coverage.
Let Primer Dry: Allow the primer to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Note: not all surfaces need to be primed.
Paint it!
Painting
Cut In Edges: Use a brush to "cut in" the edges of the walls, around the trim, baseboards, and ceiling. This creates a clean edge for rolling.
Roll the Paint: Using a roller, apply the paint in a "W" or "M" pattern to ensure even coverage. Start from the top of the wall and work your way down.
Second Coat: Once the first coat is dry, apply a second coat of paint for a smooth and even finish.
Wrapping Up
Finishing Touches
Remove Tape: Carefully remove painter's tape before the paint is completely dry to avoid peeling.
Touch Up: Inspect the painted area for any missed spots or imperfections and touch up as needed.
Clean Up: Clean your brushes, rollers, and any other tools used. Remove drop cloths and return furniture to the room.
Abracadabra!
Final Inspection
Inspect the Work: Walk through the space and ensure all areas are evenly painted and free of drips or streaks.
